You can't go far wrong with Pret and this branch is a good un. The fare is the same across the country so it's the service which marks out the good from the bad and the the service here is impeccable.

Great Pret (aren't they all) located right across the street from the famous Gherkin building. Amazingly fast service, even if there's a queue ("line" in American) you won't be waiting more than a minute or two.
Fantastic delicious fresh sandwiches and pastries.
Much as I'd like to rate higher, I have to take stars off for their lack of enforcement of smoking policies. Sure, they have signs on the outside tables, but they truly don't care if people light up. I would have stayed longer this morning and had another coffee, but I can't stand the smoke in my face. -

Modern storefront in the heart of the insurance district. This branch has some comfortable seating, though they are rather jammed together. Also, pressure on seating at busy times e.g. lunch time means you may have strangers joining you at your table. My baguette was fresh and the ingredients were good. I was having a lunch time meeting, which was a little hampered by the volume of the music they were playing which made hearing each other speak a little difficult. However , eating in the city can be hit and miss, and expensiveness is no guarantee of quality. At least the food here is predictable and pretty reasonably priced. If only they would turn the music down...........
